Bahamas Kidlit Book Drive

River Dog Book Co. is supporting the Bahamas Kidlit Book Drive, an initiative put together by book industry professional, Hannah Moushabeck, and her family. In her own words,
Like many of you, I watched the footage Hurricane Dorian in horror. My mother grew up in the Bahamas and her partner is Bahamian, so the islands that were destroyed were much more than a vacation getaway to them. When my mother reached out to Bahamians in need and asked “What can I do?” they said, “Do what you know.” If anyone knows my family, they know… we do books. So with this in mind, my mum and I are collecting books and funds to provide joy and relief for children affected by Hurricane Dorian's destruction.
These books will provide emotional relief to those who have lost everything including loved ones. While their physical needs are being met by aid agencies, we wanted to provide books to those who have experienced massive trauma.
The Bahamas Kidlit Book Drive needs books for children of all ages (board books through young adult titles) that represent the population of the Bahamas, which is made up of 85% Afro/Black Bahamians. Bonus points if the books are set in the Caribbean. Please keep this in mind and send diverse titles. We are also looking for books that spark joy! Please avoid books about extreme weather for obvious reasons.
